Dear Sandia Community,
With so many questions during these uncertain times, we wanted to provide you with a message from our Counseling Department.
We Care About You!
It is easy to feel overwhelmed and even scared with the endless stream of information about the spread of the COVID-19 virus and its impact on our community, country, and the world. Chances are that you and your family have been personally impacted. Throughout the country and the world, schools have switched to home learning via online or correspondence classes, activities have been canceled, and social distancing has become a part of our daily lives. I think we all have more questions than definite answers. Dealing with the unknown can be stressful and we want you to know that we understand. So, join us in taking a deep breath, breathing out slowly and focusing on the things we can control rather than the things we can’t. We are here to help, so please reach out to us if you have any questions. We will answer to the best of our ability. Since we are working Monday-Friday remotely, beginning August 12th, the best way to reach us is via email. We promise to respond to you as quickly as we can. Our commitment to you is steadfast as we navigate through home-learning.
Our role as school counselors is to keep students on track for graduation, assist with student’s and parent’s communication with their teachers, and provide students and families with academic and mental health resources.
Students - Communication is key! Please reach out to your Counselor by email or the student sign up sheet located on the front of the counseling website. Use an email that you check regularly. We will respond!
Parents - Please, make sure your emails and phone numbers are updated via ParentVue. We will use the contact information that we have on file to share information and provide resources.
We are also asking 11th and 12th Grade students to sign up for our Counseling Department’s Remind account. We will use Remind to push out important College and Career information. We will also push out important information for 9th-12th students via Peach jar Flyers, emails, and Mr. D'Anza's phone messages.
Google Voice- In some situations Counselors may need to call parents or students. We are unable to use our office phones, so we created Google Voice accounts to use as needed.
News about COVID-19 (Coronavirus) may create anxiety and concerns for many people. The NM Crisis Line is a professional Mental Health line with a solution-focused approach built on validation, normalization, and access to resources. This organization is prepared to appropriately respond not only to mental health concerns, but also the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak.
